“The Things We Do For The Orange Jesus”
The Congressman said it sarcastically. For his followers, they apparently mean it.
Orange Jesus: In an MSNBC Deadline: White House broadcast, days before the release of Lynn Cheney’s new book, Oath and Honor: A Memoir and a Warning, host Alicia Menendez said,
“Cheney reveals for the first time that [Kevin] McCarthy told her just two days after Election Day that he had talked to Trump and Trump acknowledged he had lost the 2020 election. ‘He knows it’s over,’ McCarthy said, according to the book. ‘He needs to go through all the stages of grief.’ Cheney writes that she thought to herself, ‘Those stages of grief seem to be tweeting in all caps.’
Regarding the new Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, she notes from a CNN interview:
“Cheney recounts how Johnson pressured Republican members to support an amicus brief to throw out the election results from four states Trump had lost. ‘When I confronted him with the flaws in his legal arguments,’ Cheney writes, ‘Johnson would often concede, or say something to the effect of, “We just need to do this one last thing for Trump.”’…

“Just before the capitol was attacked on the 6th, Cheney describes a scene in the GOP cloakroom, where members were encouraged to sign their names on electoral vote objection sheets, lined up on a table, one for each of the states Republicans were contesting. Cheney writes most members knew ‘it was a farce,’ and ‘another public display of fealty to Donald Trump.’ ‘Among them was Republican Congressman Mark Green of Tennessee,’ Cheney writes. ‘As he moved down the line, signing his name to the pieces of paper, Green said sheepishly to no one in particular, “The things we do for the Orange Jesus.”’
Elsewhere Cheney writes, ‘I am very sad to say that America can no longer count on a body of Republicans to protect our republic’… ‘Everyone of us—Republican, Democrat, Independent—must work and vote together to ensure that Donald Trump and those who have appeased, enabled and collaborated with him are defeated. This is the cause of our time.”
When Everybody Hates You But Fears You: Rev 13:8 (Orange Jesus)
Orange Jesus: “She recounts how a GOP colleague, who she does not name, told her he knew what Trump had done was impeachable, but he was afraid that voting to impeach would put his wife and new baby in danger. ‘I absolutely understood his fear,’ Cheney writes. ‘But I also thought, ‘Perhaps you need to be in another job.’”
Later on the show, Representative Adam Schiff of the January 6 Committee said, “I remember speaking to Adam Kinzinger and him saying, ‘People keep saying Liz and I are so courageous. It’s not that we’re so courageous, but that we’re surrounded by cowards.’”
Such a fellowship these Republicans have! Such camaraderie! If you don’t do as the Orange Jesus wishes, perhaps a gang of angry fellows will surround your house and threaten to burn it down, tribe of Dan/Philistine style (Judges 18:24,25; 15:6)?
Yet will none of the crazed followers of this “I alone can fix it” savior abandon him, even when there’s no personal cost to them. All these tough guy militia types who can’t stand the wimpiness and gullibility of the libs, could simply decide to conclude they’ve been conned (for they surely have), and withdraw their support. But no, it’s officials of their own party who are being doxed and threatened as much if not more than Democratic officials.
Here is yet one more voice bearing witness that Trump knew he had lost the election, and yet he still deliberately went ahead with creating and pursuing The Big Lie to this day. The majority of his party is having a conniption fit, now that the Colorado Supreme Court studied all the evidence and concluded he really is guilty of insurrection, the domestic equivalent of treason.
